About
Urja Shah
Urja was born in Nairobi, Kenya where she traveled to many times in her childhood after moving to Perth with her family when she was just 10 months old. Her name directly translates to Energy (Urja) King (Shah) in Sanskrit, and this name was chosen based on her birth chart! Urja is committed to living fully and is driven by a passion to understand, share and grow in all parts of her life. Whether it’s some form of movement practice traveling, absorbing knowledge through podcasts and books, spending quality time with the people she loves or doing the inner work, Urja is constantly seeking to improve and better herself.
Through her own learnings over the years, she values the necessity to accept and learn from personal past experiences as this becomes the power we have to help others with. Urja aspires to have a healing centre that encapsulates every aspect of “whole person” healing including a cafe that her Mum will own and operate, a number of group movement studios and holistic practitioner rooms. What makes Urja most happy is community and bringing people together through a healthy and uplifting sense of belonging. This is just the beginning!
The other side of my childhood was based around my wonderful Mum and constantly seeing her in her element when she was helping those around her and bringing people together through her incredible cooking. Every other weekend we would have 20+ family and friends over and Mum would cook for them all, straight from her heart. From a very young age, I learnt about the power of working with authenticity and love and always being of service to others. I learnt from the best and I grew up with pure passion for helping and taking care of those around me.
Through a combination of my enthusiasm for being active; knowing the pain (emotional and physical) of not being able to do what I loved; feeling the power of Physiotherapy first hand (over and over) and my wiring to problem solve and care for others, my foundation for Physiotherapy was pretty well solidified.
But there was still a piece of the puzzle that was missing. Starting out as a Physiotherapist, a huge portion of my clients were having solid but short lived results. On the physical front, they were ticking all the boxes and completing the protocol that I had recommended. So my hyper problem- solving mind kept asking WHY? Every single time, without fail, it came down to STRESS. Not only the overthinking kind, but stress on all fronts- mental, emotional, physical, chemical. Through endless studying, I learnt that all forms of stress result in the same outcomeon the physical front, the body braces to protect, inflammation is sent out to damaged sites, breathing shallows and pain is magnified. This keeps us stuck in the loop of neural wind up, as we constantly live in a state of survival. I delved deeper and deeper into Eastern and Western medicine and how our inner world affects the outer. Through my own practice I keep coming back to the same lesson- that true safety, strength and balance come from within.
Upon reflecting on my journey many, many times over the years, I genuinely do believe that what we have gone through in our lives becomes our authentic power as only we have been through these experiences. It is only when we choose to embrace these life events as lessons for growth that we no longer are the victims of our circumstances. We alchemise from feeling powerless and out of control, to being powerful and balanced internally.
My mission is to empower you with the skill set to tune in and know what to do when tension/pain arises and to minimize these incidences in the long run. This starts with your current injury but extends into every part of your life. Like a garden, we find the weeds, pull them out and set a solid foundation to plant the new. From there constant nurturing is essential to flourish and grow! Authenticity
Always living and working from a space that aligns with our beliefs and values. Letting go of who we think we should be, and coming back to the essence of who we really are.

Constant Growth
Staying committed to a variety of ways of learning and growing, not only physically but mentally and emotionally also. This also means being open to new ways of being that may challenge current beliefs.

Self Awareness
Taking time out to reflect and understand why we are the way we are. This includes letting go of things that no longer serve us and embedding healthier thoughts/beliefs/actions.

Compassion
This is not a space for judgement, but instead just pure understanding and acceptance. As we choose compassion over blame for ourselves and those around us, we create positive change through love.

Community
Building a sense of belonging with like minded people that are all committed to bettering themselves and taking responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”.

Openness
This means allowing ourselves to truly feel comfortable with who we are, no matter the circumstances. Sharing these parts of ourselves gives permission to those around us to do the same.

The Origin of 'From Within'
During my first ever experience in a sensory deprivation tank the words “To find beauty in darkness is to find it from within” played over and over in my mind.
When we are in a state of pain and suffering, the only way out is to tune in by understanding what the body needs and giving it just that. This is where true healing begins.
